Breaking Chains of Transmission with PCR / LFT COVID-19 Screening & Testing
COVID-19 continues to bring significant changes to our daily lives, with many businesses and employees having to adapt to new ways of working. Wright Medics offers information and advice to support you to safeguard the health and wellbeing of your employees as we adjust to new ways of working during a rapidly changing situation. Broadening testing to identify those showing no symptoms will mean finding positive cases more quickly, and break chains of transmission. Testing can provide confidence to workers and customers in the workplace, helping to protect and enable business continuity.
Did you know that around 1 in 3 people who are infected with COVID-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it.
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
Tailored COVID-19 Screening for Employers & Employees
Wright Medics can assist in the preparation, management and implementation of COVID screening and testing procedures for employers and workforce employees throughout the country.
We understand that there is not a ‘on size fits all’ approach depending on employee status and the working environment of that industry sector. This understanding and our considerable medical experience ensures that we can tailor our Covid screening services to match individual client/site requirements.
Our Covid 19 screening for employers and employees typically includes the testing and processing of:
- PCR Testing.
- LFT / Lateral Flow Testing.
PCR Tests.
Nasal and Throat Swabs
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests are used to directly screen for the presence of viral RNA, which will be detectable in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present. This basically means that PCR tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on in their illness.
Put simply, PCR testing tests for signs of current infection (whether or not it is asymptomatic). This is taken as a nasal and throat swab and sent away to an external laboratory for processing.
You should get a PCR test as soon as possible if you have any of these symptoms:
- A high temperature.
- A new, continuous cough.
- A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
Results normally within 24 hours.
Rapid LFT / Lateral Flow Tests. Results in 15 Minutes
Antibody Testing – the presence of Antibodies indicates a past or potentially current infection or that previous Covid vaccinations are working in your immune system. The antibody test is in the form of a LFT test which provides results in 15 minutes.
Antigen Testing tests for current Covid infection (whether or not it is asymptomatic). The antigen test is in the form of a LFT test and provides results in 15 minutes.
It is recommended that private-sector employers offer their workforce (who are on-site) access to a minimum of 2 lateral flow tests every week. This will help to identify staff who are carrying the virus who may not be displaying symptoms, thus reducing the risk of transmission.

COVID-19 screening helps prevent the spread of the virus and protects you, your workforce and your business from a loss in productivity. If a member of your team is experiencing one of the following systems, it is imperative that a PCR test is undertaken: A high temperature (if you feel hot to touch on your chest or back) / A new, continuous cough (coughing a lot or more than usual for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours) / A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
